Gallery Furniture Does It Again!

Acima merchant, Jim McIngvale, known as “Mattress Mack” owner of Gallery Furniture in Houston, Texas has opened his doors once again to help those in need.

On August 29, 2021, Hurricane Ida made landfall as a Category 4 storm on the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, putting millions of people in danger of heavy rain, high winds, and record storm surges. The day Hurricane Ida made landfall, Mattress Mack announced on social media that anyone with Louisiana identification had a place to which they could evacuate and shelter, for free.

“Well, we did it during Katrina and, you know, people need a place to stay,” said McIngvale. “The essence of our being is to help other human beings when they are down on their luck.”

Mack regularly opens his stores to people in need of shelter, including when Hurricane Harvey hit Houston in 2017 and during the historic winter storms this year in Texas.

“We can always make more money, but we can’t make more people,” he told Fox 26. “So, we’re here to help people. At the end of the day we’re not going to be judged by the Creator by how much money we make, but instead of how much of a difference we make.”

In addition to providing shelter to those in need, he sent multiple “Flood Trucks” to Louisiana with critical emergency supplies. For four days, Mack held a drive to collect non-perishable food items, bottled water, diapers, baby wipes, pet food, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, socks, puzzles, games, activities for children, and other necessities. On September 1st, Mack had enough supplies donated to send 30 of his “Flood Trucks” to Louisiana to drop off supplies to those in need!
